Category: Chikungunya
Chikungunya is a viral disease transmitted to humans through the bite of infected Aedes mosquitoes, primarily in tropical and subtropical regions. It is characterized by sudden onset of high fever and severe joint pain, often affecting the hands, wrists, ankles, and knees, and the joint discomfort can be intense and debilitating. Other symptoms may include headache, muscle pain, rash, fatigue, and nausea. Although the infection is rarely fatal, joint pain can persist for weeks or even months in some individuals. There is no specific antiviral treatment, so care focuses on relieving symptoms with rest, fluids, and pain management. Prevention relies mainly on mosquito control measures and avoiding mosquito bites.
