Category: Mole (Melanocytic Nevus)
A mole, medically known as a melanocytic nevus, is a common skin growth formed by a cluster of melanocytes, the pigment-producing cells in the skin. Moles typically appear as small, round or oval spots that may be flat or raised and can range in color from flesh-toned to brown or black. Most moles are benign and develop during childhood or adolescence, though some may appear later in life. While generally harmless, changes in size, shape, color, or texture—such as irregular borders or rapid growth—can signal the need for medical evaluation, as atypical moles may be associated with an increased risk of melanoma. Regular skin self-examination and awareness of evolving lesions are important for early detection of potential skin abnormalities.
