Category: Ovarian Cyst
An ovarian cyst is a fluid-filled sac that develops on or within an ovary, often forming as part of the normal menstrual cycle. Many ovarian cysts are functional and benign, resolving on their own without causing symptoms. However, larger or persistent cysts may lead to pelvic pain, bloating, pressure, irregular menstrual cycles, or discomfort during intercourse. In some cases, a cyst can rupture or cause the ovary to twist (ovarian torsion), leading to sudden, severe abdominal pain. Ovarian cysts are typically detected through pelvic examination or imaging such as ultrasound. While most are harmless, monitoring is important to distinguish benign cysts from more complex or potentially serious conditions.
