Prostate problems refer to conditions affecting the prostate gland, a small organ in males located below the bladder that produces components of semen. Common prostate conditions include benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), which is noncancerous enlargement of the gland; prostatitis, which involves inflammation or infection; and prostate cancer. Symptoms may include difficulty starting urination, weak urine stream, frequent urination (especially at night), pain or burning during urination, pelvic discomfort, or blood in the urine or semen. Risk increases with age, and some prostate conditions can develop gradually with few early symptoms. Because urinary changes can also signal more serious issues, persistent or worsening symptoms should be medically evaluated.
