Category: Sarcoidosis
Sarcoidosis is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by the formation of tiny clusters of immune cells called granulomas in various organs, most commonly the lungs, lymph nodes, skin, and eyes. The exact cause is unknown, but it is thought to involve an abnormal immune response to an unknown trigger, possibly environmental or infectious. Symptoms vary depending on the organs affected and may include persistent cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, fever, swollen lymph nodes, skin rashes, or eye irritation. In many cases, sarcoidosis resolves on its own, but in some individuals, it can progress and cause organ damage. Because the disease can affect multiple systems, early evaluation is important to monitor for potential complications.
