Category: Swollen Feet
Swollen feet, also known as peripheral edema, occur when excess fluid accumulates in the tissues of the feet and lower legs. This can result from a variety of causes, including prolonged standing or sitting, injury, infection, poor circulation, heart failure, kidney or liver disease, or certain medications. Symptoms may include puffiness, tight or shiny skin, discomfort, and, in some cases, indentation of the skin when pressed (pitting edema). Swelling can be temporary and mild or persistent and more serious, depending on the underlying cause. Because it may signal systemic health issues, ongoing or severe swelling should be evaluated by a healthcare professional.
